What goes into an Evaluation?

If you are thinking about an Evaluation there are many different ways to structure one. All of this can seem a bit overwhelming and this is where an evaluation consultant can really help you to get the most out of your evaluation.

All you really need to know is; What are the questions you want answered? Sometimes this can be as simple as 'Are we reaching the people we should?' Sometimes it can be more complex and involve trying to work out the social change for people involved in your project or activity. Sometimes it can be about proving what you believe to be anecdotally true.

We have a graphic, which can help us to show you which part of the process is best for your project.



Depending on your budget, and the time available, The Evaluator can help you to choose the right methods. Then we can either do all the work for you, or help you to develop those methods yourself.

The Evaluator working with Pendle Leisure Trust

The Evaluator is delighted to announce a new client. We will be working with Pendle Leisure Trust on a few projects, but initially we are doing a 'Social Return on Investment' for the Trust.

Pendle Leisure Trust is someone we have known for a long time, not only is The Evaluator based in Pendle, but our director used to be employed by Pendle Leisure Trust.

Kirsty says "It's really nice to be back. Things have changed, both for the company and for myself but there is still a real warmth there, and it's lovely to see all my old colleagues again."

Pendle Leisure Trust is the leading provider of leisure services in East Lancashire; with swimming pools, gyms, a spa, entertainment spaces and community projects among the many services it delivers. It touches the lives of many people in Pendle, and further afield, so mapping out a 'Social Return on Investment' is a large undertaking. We are confident we can show the range of services and values effectively though.

The Evaluator working with Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership...

The Evaluator is delighted to announce another new client; The Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership.

Working together with their volunteer programme and their forest school programme, Little Saplings, The Evaluator is capturing key demographics and understanding what motivates those taking part. As always, this is an evaluation designed to understand what the project staff want to know and to work with them - never forcing ideas onto them.

Pendle Hill itself also happens to be a truly beautiful place, made famous around the world as the home of the Pendle Witches. Here are a couple of images of the windswept winter summit, taken in January 2019 by our director, Kirsty Rose Parker.

Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership Scheme is an ambitious four year programme of activity based around the heritage and landscape of Pendle Hill, led by the Forest of Bowland AONB and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scheme has five aims:


We will restore, enhance and conserve the heritage and landscape of Pendle Hill
We will re-connect people with the landscape
We will re-connect people and the past
We will bring together the two sides of the hill
We will create a sustainable future for the environment, heritage and for visitors’ experience of Pendle Hill


The scheme will provide opportunities for training and volunteering; restore important landscape features; support research and develop innovative interpretation to inspire a new generation about heritage – all underpinned with the engagement of more people, and a wider range of communities.

The scheme is delivered through 12 projects, many also involving a ‘Gathering’ that comprise a strong element of creative arts, bringing people together from both sides of the hill, building cohesion and creating shared points of view. In addition three threads of activity – volunteering, outdoor learning, and interpretation – draw together the projects and support high quality engagement.

The Evaluator working with More Than A Face

One of our longest partnerships is with the Charity, More Than A Face.

This charity aims to educate young people on facial disfigurement and encourage them to see people for who they are and not just what they look like. The Evaluator is working with MTAF to help them measure the impact of their schools programme, and to provide headline figures as to why this education role is needed.

Feedback in general

Who doesn't love to get nice feedback? Well here at The Evaluator we love it when people talk to us about our work. So much so, that we are looking at doing our own internal evaluation soon and we will share that here.

So much of our time is spent asking other people what they think we often overlook our own comments.

This is what our latest client had to say about our latest finished project...


Isn't that lovely? We created a theory of change for her in this case and it was a plea for help. They were doing some exciting new work but needed help to articulate it. They needed to explain their project in a more strategic manner and did not have the time or ‘head-space’ to achieve this. We always tell people that ‘a good consultant should make your life easier not harder’.
